With COVID meaning that most of our normal traditions, holidays and trips are either cancelled or altered in some way, we are keen to find things to do locally to allow our children to still experience the magic of the changing seasons!

Which brings us to autumn/Halloween.

Questions are being raised on whether trick or treating will be allowed to continue this year, but many have already begun to adapt and overcome the challenges that COVID presents by organising a ‘Pumpkin/ScarecrowTrail’ around local areas in Worthing so check out the feeds in our Facebook group to see which roads/areas are participating.

A long-standing local tradition was always to visit the incredible pumpkin display at Slindon Pumpkins, but again, sadly due to COVID, Slindon Farm has been forced to close indefinitely.

So where we can visit and pick pumpkins in a COVID secure manner locally?

Well, first up we have Rogate Pumpkin Patch, nestled in the heart of the South Downs between Midhurst and Petersfield on the A272; it promises to be a great family day out over the week of Halloween.

As part of COVID-19 policies, Rogate Pumpkin Patch is now a ticketed entry event only and bookings for 6 people or less (from the same household) must be pre-booked online to allow for social distancing and staggered entry.

Pumpkin farming has been an annual event at Rogate for over 10 years now and so the Patch was the next big step in incorporating the family love of the squash!

The patch is grown in June, ready for harvest in October!

This year there will be Halloween decorations around the Patch, haystacks to climb, go-karts and barrel rides and maize to run through – the perfect autumnal day out!

A little closer to home, Roundstone Pick Your Own Farm has a vast array of different pumpkins and squashes ready to choose, both on the farm and at the farm shop.

Opening soon is the Pumpkin Picking Patch in Sompting; where you are able to pick over 32 varieties of pumpkins, use wheelbarrows to transport your pumpkins, partake in Halloween Crafts and Activities, visit the Halloween House and follow the Pumpkinology Trail.

Sompting’s Pumpkin Picking Patch is open 17-18 October and from 23rd-21st October this year, from 930am – 4 pm with free entry and free parking, so another fantastic option for some autumnal, Halloween fun for the whole family!
