Our fantastic sponsors Drenched Water Polo’s programmes are going from strength to strength; in December, Drenched had 8 players selected to represent the South East Region at the National u14s Inter-region Water Polo tournament in December. Members, Elsie Graves and Aaron Lalic were also awarded the Most Valuable Players (MVPs) of the tournament and Aiden McArragher was named the South East’s MVP.

Elsie Graves says:

“The inter regionals competition was a very unique and special experience. Water Polo is a great sport and the outcomes that come with it are so special”

Elsie has been with Drenched since she was 8 years old and started playing mini polo in the shallow end before progressing to train up to five times a week, she is also involved with the national programme.

The girls South East Region team won the tournament, which also included the Irish and Scottish National Teams. Amelia Cook, who captained the team, said:

“It’s clear we all got on really well with our teammates, both in and out of the water, and this contributed to our success

Amelia, who started with us at 8, is a goalkeeper and also attends the National programme. She only conceded 12 goals in 5 games at tournament, which is a great for a high scoring game like Water Polo.

The boys finished an admirable 4th, narrowly losing to Ireland 9-8 in the semi-final. Aaron and Aiden, joined Drenched at 7 and 8 years old, again in mini polo and have progressed to a high level, Aiden’s father, Phil, says:

“The training received at Drenched provides the children with excellent opportunities to progress to a very high level of Waterpolo. I know my children absolutely adore playing Waterpolo”

Water Polo is an amazing sport, but it’s a very hard one. It teaches resilience, discipline, hard work and of course how to be a good teammate. We’d love more children to get involved in Water Polo, so if you’re interested in trial session, please do get in touch.

We’ll leave the last word to Aaron, MVP at this year’s national tournament:

“I really enjoyed taking part in the u14 Boys inter regional tournament and I was very proud to be awarded Most Valuable Player overall. It takes a lot of commitment and I was very pleased that my hard work had paid off”

Drenched are inviting more children to try the world’s hardest team sport and get involved in 2023 – just look at what’s possible!

Why not book a taster session and see what it’s all about?
